Equestrian Australia was invited to send a three-member team to the event and after sifting through a large number of outstanding nominations, the following riders were selected; Sophie Hatch, Clemency Hughes and Chloe Mannell. As he was last year, Rory Hovell, from Yalambi Stud has been appointed as Chef d’Equipe for the tour.
The girls had a warm-up ride this afternoon, which no doubt was welcomed, as all competitors compete on borrowed horses. They will be up against competitors from nine other countries; Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
On the first day of competition, Tuesday, the girls will ride in a team event (1.05m) against these nations, followed by an individual class on Wednesday afternoon (1.05-1.10m). In their spare time, the riders are exposed to some sightseeing and a slice of Thai culture.
With the experience of taking out the Princes Cup last year, Sophie Hatch will be looking to emulate that success as well as be a leader for the new team members. Sophie said that she was very excited and grateful to compete again in Bangkok.
Australian Jumping would like to wish these three young ladies and in fact all Princess Cup competitors the very best of luck and an enjoyable experience.
