The Australian Jumping community is delighted for Gemma Creighton after her recent triumphs in the World Cup series. Riding the charming French gelding, Dada Des Brimbelles Z (Darco x President), Gemma secured not just one, but two impressive victories in back-to-back World Cup events, showcasing her skill and the blossoming partnership she has cultivated with her horse.
Gemma has been riding ‘Dada’, for nearly five years. The 13-year-old gelding, owned by the Huddy family, has proven to be a formidable competitor. “He’s a real competitor who loves going into the ring and giving it his all,” Gemma shared during her recent interview. With a sweet disposition and a penchant for treats, Dada’s enthusiasm shines through, making him a joy to be around.
Reflecting on her recent wins, Gemma expressed her disbelief at achieving such milestones saying, “I never imagined we would come home with both World Cup wins. When he crossed the finish line in the second World Cup, it was the most amazing feeling,” she recalled. Although surprised by the wins, Gemma wasn’t surprised that Dada put in the performances that he did, saying, “he performs consistently every time he goes in the ring. He always tries to win the class for me. It’s just whether I can do the right thing for him on the day and and whether luck goes our way.”

Gemma also praised the tracks designed by Gavin Chester and David Sheppard, “They put a lot of effort into designing their courses, making them challenging yet fair,” she says.
Gemma’s ambitions don’t stop with her current accomplishments. She is keen on securing her MER (Minimum Eligibility Requirement) to allow for potential selection for the Aachen 2026 World Championships and dreams of competing in Europe if the opportunity arises. “Nothing’s off the table,” she remarked.
In addition to Dada, Gemma has a strong team of horses. Among them is Alan 111 (Arko 111 x Kannan), who competes at Grand Prix and Mini Prix levels, and a promising six-year-old named GSS Catjang, recently imported from Northern Ireland. “I’ve got quite an exciting team at the moment.”
Gemma is quick to highlight that her success would not be possible without the support of the horse owners, Linda Huddy and family. “I couldn’t be where I am without them,” she says. The Huddy family’s commitment and belief in her abilities have provided her with the opportunity to excel.
Gemma’s journey in the equestrian world has undoubtedly been influenced by her father, Guy Creighton, a prominent figure in the sport. “He’s always been what I’ve been aiming to get to,” she said, recalling the lessons she’s learned from him about hard work and perseverance. “He’s always got something to add and is always helping me along with anything that I struggle with,” Gemma shared, highlighting the invaluable guidance she receives from him. Although he is often busy with teaching, course building, and judging, they make it a point to review their performances together. “We sit down and go through the videos and assess all our rounds,” she explained.
The excitement of sharing these victories with her father reached new heights when he was able to attend the recent competition at Werribee. “It was even nicer to have the win with him there,” Gemma reflected. With it planned that Guy would attend the Werribee event, Gemma thought after her win in Shepparton “Oh no – he finally gets to watch me and he has come for the wrong weekend!” never thinking that she would win again in Werribee.
As Gemma continues to carve out her path in the sport, she acknowledges the importance of all her support crew, including her partner Hugh and her mother Lena, who goes with her everywhere and helps at home when she is busy coaching. Their unwavering encouragement has been instrumental in her success, supporting her in all aspects of her equestrian journey. Gemma also appreciates the continued support from her sponsors, Edwards Saddle World in Toowoomba.
With the Australian Jumping season in full swing and more competitions on the horizon, the future looks bright for Gemma Creighton and her team and we look forward to following them on their journey.
