The first major Jumping competition of 2022 concluded today after three days of the Waratah Showjumping January show, held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC). With warm humid conditions prevailing, it was the perfect opportunity for many of the top Sydney based combinations to fine tune their performances before the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Jumping Championships to be held at Boneo Park in the first week of February.

With warm humid conditions prevailing, it was the perfect opportunity for many of the top Sydney based combinations to fine tune their performances before the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Jumping Championships are held at Boneo Park in the first week of February.

Classes were held over two arenas with heights ranging from 0.60m to 1.50m with the feature event being the Chatham Park sponsored Open 1.50m held on Sunday. After COVID-19 took its toll on the field, there were only nine combinations on the start list with four of these going clear and coming back for a jump-off. The fastest of these four was Josh Collins, the only male rider in the field, and his lovely grey stallion Cornel, who completed their round in 78.96 seconds.

First out in the jump-off was Amber Fuller and Nopal Van Tallaert, who left all the rails in place in a swift time of 48.61 seconds. What followed was a high-class display of jumping which saw the remaining three combinations also record double clears, with the stop-watch required to sort out the placings. In a time just 0.13 seconds slower than Fuller’s, second place went to Gabrielle Chugg and the bay gelding PSS Levilensky.

Josh Collins and Cornel were placed third, with fourth place going to Sarah McMillan and Tyrone VDL, a combination obviously in form after taking out the 1.40m Mini Prix at this venue at the Sydney Summer Classic just a month ago. We wish all those horses and riders heading to Boneo Park the very best of luck.
