The first final of today’s Sydney Royal Jumping program has wrapped up this afternoon. After three rounds of fierce competition the win in today’s final went to Jamie Winning-Kermond and Tulara Lady Zirocca. As a reward for their consistent performances over the four days of competition Quintation was named as the best performed Section 3 horse. Let’s take a look back at how the competition unfolded.
The first round of the Section 3 championship took place on Tuesday, with an Accumulator competition, a type of class we don’t see very often. Only three of the 16 combinations entered managed to achieve the maximum score of 65 points, so it came down to times to sort out the placings. A time of 54.88 seconds was enough to take the class by a clear margin, with the win going to Australian Senior champion rider Tom McDermott in combination with Quintation, a horse he is riding for Tess McInerney, who is currently out of action. Devos GP and Brook Dobbin travelled up from Victoria to snare second in 61.77 seconds, while third place went to Jamie Winning-Kermond and Tulara Lady Zirocca with a time of 65.72 seconds.

The top six in Round 1 were:
ROUND 1 RESULTS
PLACE | RIDER | HORSE |
1st | Tom McDermott | Quintation |
2nd | Brook Dobbin | Devos GP |
3rd | Jamie Winning-Kermond | Tulara Lady Zirocca |
4th | Vicki Roycroft | Kenny Casino |
5th | Conor Reed | ES Casello |
6th | Georgia Bouzaid | Benthen’s Balou |
The Section 3 horses were out again on Wednesday and this time a jump-off was required to sort out the placings. Six combinations went clear in the round, however, only one of these could repeat the performance in the jump off, with the win going to the Hawkesbury based combination of Amanda Madigan and Diamond B Beyonce. After missing out on a podium position in the Round 1 accumulator by just a single point, jumping legend Vicki Roycroft and Kenny Casino were unlucky to miss out on the win today, placing second by virtue of incurring a single time penalty in the jump off. A single rail in the jump off was enough to secure third place for Isabella Du Plessis and Onessa MVNZ, while the other three combinations involved in the jump off each had two rails down.
The top six placings in the second round of the Section 3 competition were as follows:
ROUND 2 RESULTS
PLACE | RIDER | HORSE |
1st | Amanda Madigan | Diamond B Beyonce |
2nd | Vicki Roycroft | Kenny Casino |

5th | Aaron Hadlow | Cera Stiletto |
6th | Brook Dobbin | Devos GP |
After a rest day on Thursday, the Section 3 competition resumed first thing on Friday morning. In this class, there were just three clear rounds, with these three combinations coming back for a second ride to sort out the podium placings. In a remarkable performance, all three again went clear, so it came down to times and when this is the case it is often that Tom McDermott excels. He and Quintation showed the opposition a clear pair of heels, finishing the jump off course in just 41.25 seconds. Unlike their victory in Round 1, it was much closer with just over half a second margin back to Jamie Winning-Kermond and Yandoo Honolulu (41.80 seconds). Third place, finishing in 44.21 seconds were young rider Anneliese Wansey and Texas. The top six placegetters in this third round were as follows:

3rd | Anneliese Wansey | Texas |

6th | Aaron Hadlow | Cera Stiletto |
A total of 13 combinations lined up for the Final, which early in the class saw Vicki Roycroft fall after what appeared to be a medical episode before she and Kenny Casino could start their round. After Vicki was taken to hospital amidst much concern from onlookers, the remaining riders met and it was agreed that Vicki would want the competition to continue, so continue they did. There were just two clear combinations who came back for a jump off, however, there was only one combination who could go double clear. That combination was Jamie Winning-Kermond and Tulara Lady Zirocca. Taking a rail in the jump off for second was Tom McDermott and Quintation, with the fastest of the first round 4-faulters, Jamie Winning-Kermond and Yandoo Honolulu claiming third place.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Vicki who we hope has a quick recovery.
