ROUND 3 – CABOOLTURE (25 JUNE)
With the recent postponement of the Larapinta leg of the 2022 Australian World Cup Series we turn our sights towards the next round, which will be held as part of the Waratah World Cup show at SIEC in late August.
The current leader of the series is Olivia Hamood, who finished in third place in each of the first two legs, before taking out the win in leg 3 in her home state. Picking up the maximum 18 points at Caboolture, Hamood has raced away from the field to currently sit on 50 points.
Second place is currently occupied by the 2018 series winner Aaron Hadlow who picked up 15 points for placing second at Caboolture and now sits on 28 points. He leads two other riders, namely Billy Raymont and Sam Overton, tied on 27 points. Overton picked up just 5 points from his 14th placed finish at Caboolture to join Raymont in third, after Raymont did not compete in leg 3 as he is currently competing in Europe. These two sit just two points clear of fifth placed Russell Johnson on 25 points, who, like Raymont, did not compete in Caboolture.
The biggest mover of the round was Josh Collins, who came into leg 3, carrying just a single point, earnt at Werribee. He finished third at Caboolture, picking up 13 points to sit in 11th position on a total of 14.
If Olivia Hamood makes the trip down to Sydney in August and has another strong showing, she may well go along way towards wrapping up the title before the half-way mark of the series. We will await the next round with great anticipation.
