Larapinta World Cup Show jumps into action
Above: Samantha Dernee and Laurel Glen Quintessence.
The four-day Larapinta World Cup Show got underway today with exciting jumping action across all four arenas. Originally intended as a five-day event, the first day which was planned for yesterday had to be postponed, with the grounds assessed as too wet for competition following the deluge which Brisbane received last weekend. With the day lost, the show organisers swung into action to reschedule the show over four days. This has seen many of the classes scheduled for Wednesday moved to other days throughout the show, with a number of other classes shuffled between days to make it all work. Only a small number of classes have been lost, however, all this means that the four days of the show will be even more packed with jumping competition. The feature class of the show, the National Storage CSI1*-W FEI World Cup Qualifier, remains scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
In the Langs Building Supplies Arena 1, the action opened with James Paterson-Robinson and Yirrkala Cameron winning the open 1.35-1.40m class, followed by Samantha Dernee and her mare Laurel Glen Quintessence taking the first round of the Mini Prix. The rest of the day belonged to Billy Raymont, who won the open 1.45-1.50m class with Caprino, in a good warm up for the World Cup Qualifier, before recording a second win with Amelia Douglass’s gelding Balian D/N Hop Z in the first round of the Future Stars Series.
Three classes were held on the CBI Group Arena 2. Courtney Scott and her gelding Pacific Santa Cruz were the fastest of 54 clears in a massive 134 combination field to take out the Open 1.15m class, while John Thomson rode Viator to victory in the Amateur Class. Nikita Stewart combined with her mare Belligerent to win the 0.80m TSHA class.
On the Gold Coast Equestrian Centre Arena 3, the 0.90m open class went to Mia Jensen and her gelding Welcome Stranger, while the 0.90m TSHA class was won by Kylie Zabel and Dusty Girl. The final class on this arena was an open 1.00m, won by Cody Tincknell and the mare, Polly Darton., the finest example of a spoonerism in a horse name that we have seen.
Out on the BMI Resource Recovery Arena 4, wins went to Julia Dalgetty and Lady Of Diamonds in the Childrens class, Millie Warren and Watermark Farm Ducati in the Open 1.05m and Chris Tomkins and his gelding Caraca Jack in the Open 1.25-1.30m class.
It was a wonderful day of Jumping and we look forward to seeing the action head up as we move towards the weekend.
