Joel Lamb and Eagle Rock – Second Round Young Rider Winners
The second round of the 4Cyte Australian Young Rider Championship has wrapped up on Day 2 of the 2025 Pet Circle Australian Jumping Championships.

The class provided some great entertainment for the assembled spectators, pitting many of the best Young Riders in the country against each other. It was the final chance for all combinations to put together strong performances to enable them to take the best position possible into Saturday’s two- round final.

A total of 31 combinations took to the arena, producing six clear rounds between them. These six returned for a jump-off to decide the class, which left just two combinations able to put together a second clear. When it came down to times to separate the top two, the winner was clear. A jump off time of 44.23 seconds was enough to see Joel Lamb and the former World Cup Qualifying horse that was ridden many times by his mother Ally, Eagle Rock take the prize. They were over four seconds faster than the other double clear combination, Charlie Magnier and Notre Dame de Bourguignon, who finished in 48.62 seconds. Third place went to the fastest four faulter in the jump off, Lorna Clifford and Waratone.

The final of the 4Cyte Young Rider Championship will be held on Saturday. All combinations that competed in the first two preliminary rounds have been ranked based on their combined performance across the two rounds and the top 20 have been invited to compete in that final. The two equal best performed combinations across the preliminary rounds are Charlie Magnier and Notre Dame de Bourguignon and the first-round winner Cody Tincknell and Numero Too. They will both start the final on zero penalties, while the rest of the combinations in the final will carry with them a calculated number of penalties based on their performance relative to these two.

With less than a rail separating the top four combinations and less than two rails separating the top nine, the titles is very open. However, the top two have a clear advantage going into the final and it is up to the others to catch them. It will be, no doubt a fascinating contest.
