Australian Jumping will reach a new milestone this October, with the country’s first FEI Under 25 2* Grand Prix to be held at Kurri Burri Polo Club in the Richmond Lowlands.

The inaugural class will be contested at a height of 145cm with $20,000 in prize money, offering Australia’s emerging riders an opportunity to compete at FEI level and for Longines Ranking points on home soil.

The Grand Prix headlines Jumping @ Kurri Burri, a three-day show running from 2 to 4 October at Kurri Burri Polo Club, approximately 50 minutes from Sydney. The FEI Under 25 2* Grand Prix will take place on Saturday 3 October.

Set on the banks of the Hawkesbury River as part of the 176-acre Marshall Rural property, Kurri Burri features two full-size tournament fields, a large stable complex and elevated viewing areas overlooking the arenas.

The field is expected to include riders such as Charlie Magnier and Jack Barker, following their recent appearances in Under 25 competition at the FEI World Championships in Aachen.

The Sydney Jumping Association is introducing the FEI Under 25 2* format as part of a broader focus on creating further international-level competition opportunities for Australia’s next generation of showjumpers.

Sydney Jumping Association’s Jamie Kermond said he hoped the class could become the beginning of a stronger domestic pathway for Under 25 riders.

“It’s extremely exciting to be introducing the FEI U25 2* Grand Prix concept to Australia. Our athletes aged 16 to 25 are the next generation and the future of Australian showjumping, and it’s important that we continue creating opportunities for them to compete at FEI level here at home,” Kermond said.

“I really hope the Australian showjumping calendar embraces this concept. It would be fantastic to see 10 to 12 U25 FEI events held across Australia each year, giving our young riders a genuine pathway to develop, gain international experience and compete for Longines Ranking points without having to travel overseas.

“This is an exciting step forward for the future of our sport in Australia.”

Alongside the FEI Under 25 2*, Jumping @ Kurri Burri will run a full program across three rings, including the $20,000 Kurri Burri Grand Prix (150cm) on Sunday and the Peel Family Mini Prix.

Spectators are welcome throughout the event, with elevated viewing areas overlooking the competition arenas and Hawkesbury River. Admission is free.
