The GDP Classic Show wrapped up on Sunday afternoon, bringing to a conclusion, four days of fantastic jumping action at the beautiful Boneo Park equestrian complex on the Mornington Peninsula. The weekend program was full of spectacular finals action, which kept the large and appreciative crowd enthralled.

Saturday saw the Strathmerton Engineering Future Stars Class decided with top class jumping seeing five combinations recording double clear performances. The win went to Ally Lamb and her young stallion, Cera Ducati in a jump off time of 42.51 seconds, taking home $5,000 for their efforts. They just knocked Jennifer Wood and Oaks 007 into second place (43.17 seconds) with James Harvey and his grey gelding, GC Chicane third in 44.13 seconds.

The first Leg of the 2024 Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series was won by the Victorian combination, Lorna Reilly and Bellhaven Jazz. For a full wrap of this class, please click HERE.

The Yandoo Equestrian Rising Stars Final, saw 11 double clear performances out of 30 combinations on the start list. The win went to Brook Dobbin and Oaks Empire, by just 0.05 seconds, completing the jump-off course in 39.74 seconds. Second place went to Gabrielle Kelly and her mare Californium, with Jamie Hewitt-Toms and Balou Du Rose third in 40.21 seconds.

Sunday was a day full of finals action. The day started with the 4cyte Junior Championship, which again saw the need for a double clear effort to make the podium. The win went to Olivia Price and Chio MS finishing the jump-off in 41.56 seconds. Elissa Stephens and Vertigo snared second place with a time of 42.05 seconds, clear of Sienna Holdsworth-Rose and Coolart Farm Short Torque in third.

The feature class of the weekend was the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix. Conducted over two rounds, only three of the 25 top class combinations entered were able to put together clean sheets. The winners, by a margin of almost five seconds were the 2022 Australian World Cup Qualifying Series winners Sam Overton and his pocket rocket gelding Oaks Cassanova. Their round 2 time was 53.36 seconds, which earned them the first prize of $20,000, putting Sarah McMillan and Tyrone into second place, finishing in 58.22 seconds. Robert Palm and his gelding Jaybee Vibrant were third, taking 60.77 seconds to finish. It was a fantastic class to watch, bringing together many of the best combinations in Australia to compete for the whopping $60,000 prize pool.

With almost $20,000 on the line, the following class, the Pink Hills Pastoral Mini Prix was an equally hard fought class. Again, contested over two rounds, the top six all finished on zero penalties, but it was Emma Collins and Oaks Abracadabra who recorded the fastest time, finishing in 46.95 seconds. Clem Smith and his gelding Quantico 12, who featured in the placings for a number of classes over the course of the show, were second, with a round two time of 47.37 seconds. Sarah Duggan and Dublin had to be content with third place, with a time of 48.82 seconds

The Flipout Amateur Championship class was won by Georgia Hodgetts and her mare Yandoo Pasadena, with the fastest jump-off time (50.34 seconds) of a quintet of double clear combinations. Second place went to Happy Girl who was ridden, no doubt by a happy girl, Jane Powell, finishing in 51.43 seconds, with third place going to Stuart Abrahams and Vivarchi RM in 52.31 seconds.

The Bared Footwear Childrens Championship was won by the NSW based combination of Valentina Hercus and her family-owned mare RBH Chaccarla, with a jump-off time of 47.57 seconds. Second place went to Harriet Smith and the gelding Im A Cowboy (47.70 seconds) rounding off a successful show for this pair, who had won 0.90m and 0.95m open classes on the first two days of the show. Third place went to the Victorian combination of Harry Gault and Emcee Holly Golightly, taking 49.06 seconds to complete the jump-off course.

The final of the Beluga Park Foxhunter Series was won by Queensland’s Stuart Jenkins and ES Quinton by a large margin, finishing the jump-off in 50.37 seconds. Second place, with a time of 58.73 seconds went to Garry Kermond and his young gelding Elm Tree Nashville, with Jenkins again in third place, this time with RPC Carol (59.17 seconds)

As in previous years, this was a fantastically organised show, which is a real credit to the trio of families: the Dobbins, the Hickeys and the Lambs, which have come together to create and organise this show. We hope it continues for many years and becomes a highlight of the Australian Jumping calendar.
