Anthony Thomas and ‘SL Donato’ do it again in SA

With COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures impacting on most of the country, Jumping competitions have been few and far between over the past few months. However, one major competition that was held last weekend were the South Australian State Jumping Championships. Held at Talunga Park at Mt Pleasant in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, the championships saw three days of fantastic action spread across two arenas.

The feature competition of the weekend was the Evolution Animal Care SA State Senior Title, which was won, for the second year in a row by Anthony Thomas and SL Donato. Thomas and SL Donato performed consistently over the weekend to take the title without actually winning one of the classes involved. The first round on Friday was won by Mark Lindh and Six Pack with Thomas and SL Donato in second place. On Saturday, Round Two was won by Briony Temby and El Diablo with Thomas and SL Donato back in fourth. The final on Sunday was taken out by Adam Metcalfe and MEC Aston, again relegating Thomas to second, however, he had done enough to take the title for the second year in a row.

The Young Rider Title was won by Rebecca Burns and Custom Line. Friday’s Round one saw just two entrants with Conor Reed and Caveton Park Legacy taking the win over Burns. Round Two on Saturday saw Burns turn the tables and take the win over Reed. Sunday’s final was an anti-climax with Burns and Custom Line the only combination entered and therefore taking the win.

In a repeat of the Senior Title, the SA State Junior Champions won through consistent performances without actually winning a class. The Round One Speed Class was won by Imogen Lindh and Nightwish, with Zara Young and PP Master Class in second place. Round Two on Saturday was won by Bella Masters and Samsonite, with Young in third place. Sunday’s Final saw Abigail Lewis fill both first and second places in combination with Tulara Wat Conikka and MEC Gossip respectively. However, it was the third placegetter in this class, Zara Young and PP Master Class who did enough to take out the Junior Title.

In Ring Two, a range of minor series were conducted over three days. Winners of these Series were:

The Adelaide Hills Equestion Centre Jade Series: won by Sasha Crawford and What A Gem.
The Vivarchie Equestrian Pearl Series: won by Charlie Germein and GE Vancouver.
The Horseland Adelaide Sapphire Series: won by Kate Growden and Chalani Spirit.
The Walter Equine Performance Services Diamond Series: won by Nicole Bruggemann and Tulara Cascadel.
The Best performed Thoroughbred, Sponsored by the Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association went to Katelle Grand, ridden by Katelin Clark
