DAY 9 – SUNDAY 6th MAY
And that is a wrap for the 2018 Aquis Champions Tour!
The Champagne flowed from the first class of the day in the Greg Grant Saddlery arena with the IRT Bronze tour final. First place was awarded to Tom McDermott riding Alpha Activity with a clear jump off and a lead of 1.07 seconds. Second was Chris Chugg riding KG Queenie who achieved another clear around and was only just behind Tom in time. Billy Raymont riding KS Digger came in with a third podium finish achieving another clear round.
The Pryde’s Gold Tour then kicked off which boasted an impressive $125,000 prize pool. This was won by Merrick Ubank riding Alantinus on a clear final round with a time of 61.23 seconds with Clint Beresford riding Emmaville Jitterbug following a very short .35 seconds behind to claim second Place. Amber Fuller bringing in third place with CP Aretino with an impressive clear round. Speaking to International course builder Klause-Wilhelm Holle who has been building our ring 1 courses for the second week of the show, said that the course was built very similar to his 4* track built in Europe last week. The jumps used in this course varied in height from an impressive 1.50m – 1.60m high and 1.70m wide which certainly tested our horses and riders.
The final event of the day, is always a crowd favourite and this year it did not disappoint. The winner of the Gollan Racing Speed Derby with an impressive clear 84.68 Seconds was Clint Beresford riding SL Donato, second went to Katie Lawrie riding Cera Caruso and third was the entertaining Ron Easey riding Simplistic with a time of 87.49.
Over in our Fiber Fresh Arena, our first class was the Hawkesbury River Saddle Company Junior which had only 2 double clear rounds with the winner Jess Rice Ward on Dusky Farm Cavalier finishing with a jump off a few seconds ahead of our second-place getter Maleah Lang-McMahon riding K.S Annassi. Third place, finishing with 4 jumping penalties was Madeline Sindeberry and JT Valentina. Our final class in this ring was the Amateur final which was won by Morgan Daniel riding Aladino with double clear rounds, second going to Melanie Heygate and Pacific Odyssey and third to Isabella Evans Riding Joker XIX.
With the show over for another year we would like to thank our fantastic sponsors, because without these generous people and organisations our show would not be able to happen. To our judges, officials, ring crew and office staff who have worked tirelessly to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. And finally to our competitors because without our fantastic competitors who come from across the state and the world we would not have the show.
We look forward to having you all with us again in 2019!
DAY 8 – SATURDAY 5th MAY
Our first class this morning in our Greg Grant Arena was the Sanna Equestrian Young Rider Final. With our international course builder making their final course one to challenge our top 30 riders. Our eventual winner was the only double clear round of the course and was awarded to Jessie O’Connell riding Cassis Z Ten Halven. Second place was awarded to Jasmine Dennison on Carita Gratia who went clear in the first round but had an unlucky rail in the jump off.
We then moved onto the Coolmore Silver Tour Final, which certainly made for an exciting class with the difference between first and second coming down to .06 seconds! Stephen Dingwall and Cavalier Du Rouet claimed the Top Prize and $5,000 prize money. Third Place went to Katie Laurie riding On The Point Eve who while jumping clear picked up an unlucky time penalty.
We then moved onto something that is not usually seen in our show ring with the introduction of 10 cross country jumps for our Express Eventing, which was a real crowd pleaser and added a different element to what we usually see in the showjumping ring.
