Australian Jumping Championships – Day 3 Wrap

The 2024 Australian Jumping Championships passed the half-way mark today with the completion of the third day of competition. All is now set up for a big weekend of finals when new Australian champion combinations will be crowned in Senior, Young Rider, Junior and Children’s categories.
Once again, the competition today was held in near perfect conditions under a warm spring sun with a lovely cooling breeze.
The first class decided on the main arena today was the MGX Australian Children’s Championship second round. As we saw previously in both the Young Rider Championship and the Senior Championship, the combination that came second in the first round came out and won the second round and the Children’s championship followed the same pattern. Going one better than their second place yesterday, the Round 2 win went to Harley McNaughton and Glenbrooke Archie Bunker who were the fastest of nine double clear performances. Second place went to Valentina Hercus and Carousel GV, with Harley again in third place, this time aboard Bloomfield SSNZ. With a second and a first placing, Harley and Glenbrooke Archie Bunker will go into Sunday’s final leading the way on zero penalties.

The second round of the Australian Junior Championship was next and was sponsored by JPR Equestrian. A massive start list of 61 combinations saw a 10-way jump-off required to sort out the placings, after which there were just three combinations still on zero penalties. The win went to the Victorian combination of Tanner Robinson and Magnum MVNZ over a second clear of the second placed Tanner, this time aboard Cracker. Jasmine Spira and Rosthwaite Balouchi were third. In a competition where consistency has been lacking from the first round to the second, Joel Lamb and KG Queenie will go into the weekend final on zero penalties, having finished sixth and fifth in the two heats.

The next classes to go on the main arena were divisions of a 1.25m two phase competition. The Yalambi Stud Young Horse section was won by Deon Williams and Carona B, with the Willinga Park Open section going to Charlie Eason and Oaks Coolangatta with a scintillating second phase ride two seconds faster than their nearest rival.

Rounding out the day were two divisions of a 1.35 two-phase class, once again divided into an open and a young horse section. The Unicornium Young horse competition went to another combination visiting from Victoria, Frida Lindgren and Wondareen Colleen. The Pryde’s Easifeed Open division went to Lane Clarke and James Bugatti.
It was a quiet day out on the Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2, with just three classes decided. The first of the day was the Mortgage Express Small Junior Tour over 1.10m where Lily Short and Hecanrockme produced the fastest of 10 clear rounds to take the win. Next up was the Global Entries Online Small Adult Tour, also over 1.10m. There were just six clears this time around, with the fastest going to Steffi Whittaker and Finch Farm Boss. The day on Arena 2 was rounded out by the running of the Kallaroo Park Equestrian Centre Amateur Class. Haydie May Bird and Connollys Karachi took out the win, relegating dual winners over the first two days of the show, Lori James and Restauranteur SHP into second place.
So the preliminaries have been completed and we await a huge weekend of finals action at the wonderful Willinga Park.
Congratulations to all the winners and placegetters on day 3 of the Championships, all of which are listed below
