Caprino has etched his name deeper into Australian Jumping history, claiming the Golden Grand Award for the second year in a row. With Billy Raymont in the saddle, the win confirms Caprino’s place among the most influential horses ever to contest the FEI Jumping World Cup Australian League.

To win the Golden Grand once is a mark of excellence. To defend it speaks to durability, consistency and an ability to deliver at the highest level across an entire season. Caprino’s back to back titles in 2024 and 2025 put him in rare company and underline the standard required to be recognised as the leading horse of the Australian World Cup circuit.

The Golden Grand Award carries weight far beyond a season tally. It is named in honour of one of the most important horses in Australian showjumping history and the rider who partnered him through a defining era.

Golden Grand, ridden by David Asimus, was a dominant force in the early days of Australian World Cup Jumping. Together, they won multiple World Cup qualifiers around the country and claimed the 1982/83 Pacific League title. Their success earned Australia representation at the 1983 World Cup Final in Vienna, where David and Golden Grand finished 12th against the world’s best.

David Asimus sadly passed away in 1994 at the age of 45, and the following season, the Leading Horse Award was established in his honour and that of his wonderful horse Golden Grand.  Read more about David Animus HERE.

From the 1995–96 season onwards, the Golden Grand Award has recognised the horse that performs most consistently across the entire FEI Jumping World Cup Australian League.

Over nearly three decades, the honour roll of the Golden Grand Award reads like a history of Australian Jumping itself. Caprino’s consecutive wins place him firmly within that lineage, reflecting both his talent and Billy’s ability to manage a championship campaign from start to finish.
