Following the excitement of the Children’s Championship final this morning, the next class on the main arena here at the Pet Circle Australian Jumping Championships was the 4Cyte Young Rider Championship Final. Only the best 20 performed combinations across the two qualifying rounds were invited into today’s final and while the conditions were wet, these Young Riders truly rose to the occasion, putting on a fantastic display of jumping in the conditions.

The win went to Charlie Magnier and the mare Notre Dame De Bourguignon, going one better than their second placing in last year’s Championship. Based on their solid performances across the two qualifying rounds, where they finished fourth and second, they came into the final carrying zero penalties and a pair of clear rounds ensured that no other combination could catch them. In a testament to their class, out of the 33 combinations who took to the arena for the first qualifying class, this pair were the only ones not to incur a singe fault across the three days of competition.

Also putting together a wonderful double clear performance in today’s final were the second placed team of Alexander Jang and gelding Parallax SCF. Alexander started the final in equal eighth place carrying seven penalties, but the double clear performance while many of the riders in front of him took rails, propelled him up the leaderboard landing him in second place when the dust settled. It was a fantastic performance from a rider who has shown remarkable improvement this year.

Third place Went to Cody Tincknell and Numero Too. They, along with Charlie and Dame De Bourguignon, had entered the final tied on zero penalties, however, a rail down in each of the two rounds of the final, saw their total rise to eight and Cody had to be content with a place on the podium.

Local rider Tanner Robinson and her new mount Amenadiel had a great final. They put together two clear rounds, to remain on the 10 penalties that they carried into the final. This moved them up from equal eleventh to snare fourth place in the championship.

Claire Zylstra and Harvey B, the 2022 Australian Junior Champions finished in fifth place based on time having finished equal on 15 penalties with two other combinations, namely; Hayden Parker and Tulara Spangenberg and Queenslanders Lorna Clifford and the OTT gelding Waratone.

It was a fantastic final with the class of Charlie Magnier claiming the win. We look forward to tomorrow to see if Charlie can add the Junior Title to his win today, when he will take to the course as the leader on zero penalties.
