Clean sweep for Tom McDermott at Sydney Royal
The highlight of a week of senior jumping at Sydney Royal was the Grand Prix, run over 2 rounds this afternoon in front of a packed stadium. Over the challenging course, the first round delivered only two clears, the first by Gabi Kuna and Flaire and the second by Tom McDermott and Elegance de la Charmille.

Brooke Langbecker and Quintago 1 entered Round 2 carrying forward 4 penalties, but rode brilliantly to deliver a clear and leave them on their first round score. Gabi Kuna and Flaire also delivered a faultless round to move them into the lead with the first double clear.
It all came down to the final combination, Tom McDermott and Elegance de la Charmille. McDermott knew what was needed to secure the victory – a clear round in a time quicker than Kuna’s and that is exactly what he delivered – to take the prize.
This capped-off an extremely successful show for McDermott who also won the Section 1 classes on both Tuesday and Friday as well as Section 2 classes on Wednesday and Thursday on Alpha Activity. The reward for his efforts included the tittles of Young Jumping Horse of the Show along with Jumping Horse of the Show for Elegance de la Charmille and Most Successful Rider in Jumping Contests for McDermott himself.
