Eliza Abrahams wins Australian Children’s Championship
The first major championship of the 2025 Pet Circle Australian Jumping Championships has been decided at a cool and damp Boneo Park. Eliza Abrahams and Emcee Street Wise beat off the opposition to prevail in the Equestrian Life sponsored Children’s Championship Final.
With all but one of the 22 combinations in the final carrying penalties based on their performances across the two preliminary rounds, clear rounds this morning were going to be more valuable than ever. This proved to be the case with the top four combinations in the final standings all going double clear.
Eliza Abrahams and Emcee Street Wise came into the final carrying three penalties following a win in the first qualifying class and a tenth placing in the second qualifier. In their first round this morning, they proved that their performance on Thursday was the exception to the rule. A clear round set them up to come out last in the second round where they faced a huge pressure situation. With a lead of just two penalties over their nearest rivals, they had to be perfect as a single rail would have cost them the title. Eliza showed a cool head on young shoulders and if the situation placed pressure on her, she did not show it. She and the gelding produced a faultless ride and in just 64.29 seconds the title was theirs.
Second place went to the Queenslanders Harriet Smith and Oaks Conspiracy. They started the final in third place carrying with them five penalties, which ended up to be their final score thanks to a strong double clear performance, completing a rail-free championship for them.
Georgina Pillar and Joselands Patrick claimed third place in the title. Carrying nine penalties, they entered the final in fifth position and a pair of clear rounds for them today meant they completed the championship with all the rails intact.
Also going double clear today and claiming fourth spot in the championship were Luiza Dias Marucio and the mare Molinda JB.
It was a fantastic final to watch. Despite the weather proving a challenge, as a group, these youthful riders put on a great display of Jumping enthralling the early morning crowd. With so many years ahead of them in the sport, we will watch with great interest where their journeys take them.
