Pryde’s Easifeed Gatton World Cup 2018 – Major results for days 1, 2 and 3.
DAY 1
Day 1 at Gatton saw a series of first qualifying rounds for the various Championship finals which are scheduled to be held over the weekend. However, the highest jumping of the day was seen in Class 2 at 1.40m.
This class was used by a number of the World Cup Qualifying aspirants as a warm up for Sunday’s, World Cup Qualifier. The results of this event saw nine of the first ten placings filled by combinations that had come straight from the World Cup event at Caboolture, last weekend.
The pairing of Clem Smith and his 17-year-old gelding Guru, were the only team to both go clear and break 70 seconds, finishing in 69.66 seconds. Second place, finishing clear in 72.20 seconds was Kate Hinschen and Finch Farm Cadel, narrowly beating another Queenslander, Brooke Langbecker and her 11-year-old stallion Quintago 1, by just over half a second.
Both 4th and 5th placings also went clear. The top eight placings in the 1.40m class are listed below.

DAY 2
The feature event on Day 2 at Gatton was Class 11, held over 1.45m/1.50m.
Once again, this class was used by a number of World Cup Qualifying hopefuls as a warm up for the big event on Sunday, with the top 6 placing filled by combinations who scored points in the World Cup Qualifier in Caboolture last weekend.
Out of a high-class field of 21, only 6 combinations went clear to qualify for a jump-off. Tom McDermott and his mare Diamont sizzled around the shortened course going clear in 51.56 seconds. Also clear, but at almost 3 seconds slower, second place went to the very consistent Brooke Langbecker and Quintago 1, with Kate Hinschen riding the 9-year-old gelding Finch Farm Cadel into 3rd place, almost 1 second adrift.
These three combinations were the only ones to go double clear. The top eight placings in the 1.45m/1.50m class are listed below.

DAY 3
Saturday (Day 3) at Gatton saw a number of Championship classes contested, where riders only qualified by placing high enough in the qualifying classes held over days 1 and 2.
CLASS 20 – NEWCOMER FINAL – 1.10m (Under 8 points)
Only the top 30 combinations in the two qualifying rounds were eligible to compete in what was a hotly contested final. Of the 30 starters, 13 went clear to qualify for the jump-off, where eight, again went clear with less than eight seconds separating them.
First place went to Kirstie Ansell and Tulara Stolensky by less than a 1 second margin. This pairing had performed consistently in the two qualifying events, finishing 6th then 7th without a rail down in either class.
Second place was secured by Brittany Murphy and Calisto Mirage, who came back strongly from a 33rd placing in the first qualifier and 6th in the second qualifier.
The combination of Gemma Creighton riding Ricochet CG, who placed 3rd in each of the two qualifying events proved her consistancy by finishing 3rd in the final, only 1 second behind the 2nd placegetter.
Fourth and fifth placegetters could not be split as they both rode identically times and clear rounds in the jump-off. The top eight placings in the Newcomer Final are listed below.

CLASS 21 – FUTURE STARS CHAMPIONSHIP – 1.30m (Horses 9yo & under, 50 points & under)
Once again, only the top 30 performed combinations in the two qualifying rounds were eligible to compete in the Future Stars Championship final. A high-class event saw 14 combinations go clear to qualify for a massive jump-off. Half of these combinations again went clear in the jump-off with less than a second separating the top 4 placings
Continuing his success from Thursday, Clem Smith, this time riding Sangster, were the winners by just 0.24 of a second. After less than stellar performances in the qualifying rounds, finishing 6th then 16th, Clem’s style shone through in the final.
Second place went to the consistent Paula Hamood, riding Dada Des Brimbelles Z. This combination were narrow victors in the first qualifier and a very close 5th in the second qualifier.
Saving their best to last was the third placed combination of Stuart Jenkins on Blackall Park Penny Lane, having finished 13th and 17th respectively in each of the qualifying rounds.

CLASS 22 – AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP – 1.15m/1.20m
The 30 top pairings from the combined results of the two qualifying classes were invited to contest the Amateur Championship final today at Gatton. To have any chance of standing on the podium combinations were required to go double clear and this was achieved by the first 6 placegetters.
A very well-deserved winner of the Amateur Championship was Morgan Daniel riding Aladino. This pairing finished in 3rd place in the first qualifying event and were clear winners in the second qualifying event, with a time almost a massive six seconds better than the 2nd placegetter. They again showed their class by being the only combination to break 40 seconds in the jump-off.
Second placing went to Emily Uebergang on Sandy Creek Loulou. This pairing demonstrated great improvement to finish less than a second behind the winner, after coming 29th and 8th in the qualifying classes.
Dakardo, ridden by Alyse Maxwell secured the final spot on the podium, after consistent 11th and 13th performances in the qualifying rounds.
