On the 20th and 21st November 2021, the Dubbo Eventing and Showjumping Association (DESA) played host to the Macquarie Jumping Festival at their grounds in Brocklehurst, just outside Dubbo.
The club’s new showjumping equipment hand-made by the talented crew at Little Station Showjumping Equipment was showcased over the expertly built Tim Dansey tracks, with many outstanding rounds revealed in both open and Thoroughbred Sporthorse classes (TSHA) ranging from 0.45m to 1.20m.
The 1.15m TSHA feature class of the day on Saturday was won by local hard-working DESA committee member Kate Edwards and Pompous, whilst the open division of this height was claimed by local young gun, Hayley Cox on Eclipsis. The TSHA and Dubbo Turf club proudly sponsored the Thoroughbred division and saw Kate and her gelding take home the much-coveted rug for the winner.
The ominous rain clouds threatened to dampen the competition on Sunday, but luck was on DESA’s side with enough rain falling overnight to water the arena nicely and have the horses jumping well again for the final day of the Festival, but stopped during the day until the final rider had completed, then down it came!
The two main classes on Sunday were run first up and provided a beautiful display of jumping talent, and it was a Quinella for both Kate Edwards and Pompous and Hayley Cox and Eclipsis with the win again for each of them in the 1.10m and 1.20m classes respectively.
Hayley was deservedly awarded the rug and garland for the DESA Diamond 1.20m Class, and made sure of a happy evening with her second place as well on Tulara Zane.
There were many ambitious and capable junior riders competing within the ranks for the weekend, with Holly Pulford from Murrumbateman leading the way with many wins and placings, earning her the 17 years and under High Point Score, with Zac Boland from Cobar hot on her heels with his two in form horses keeping him well in the prizemoney over the weekend and claiming runner-up in that pointscore.
The 12 years and under High Point Youth was a nail-biting showdown, and in the end they couldn’t be split, with Sienna Kostitch and Hannah Partridge sharing the younger junior pointscore.
The weekend was very capably run by the experienced DESA committee, led by President Dale Frew, and not only showcased the international standard new showjumps, but the clubs new combined Food Van and Judges box “Big Red” made her debut appearance to much acclaim. The club is hopeful of some more major improvements soon with some impressive support from well-respected players in the showjumping fraternity for the recent funding application to upgrade the arena surface, to bring the club in line with some of the most enviable facilities in the state!
Many thanks to all the riders, supporters, helpers and most importantly sponsors of our annual Macquarie Jumping Festival! COVID tried to beat us, but we succeeded! Congratulations to all winners and placegetters, full results are as follows:
