Jack Barker takes back to back Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series
The 2024 Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series came to its conclusion this afternoon when the fourth and final leg of the series was held at SIEC as part of the Jumping NSW Summer Showjumping Classic. In an exciting class which saw a five-way jump-off required to sort out the placings the win today went to Victorian rider Jack Barker riding Tulara Colchic, which sent them to the head of the leader board and in doing so, they became not only the winners of the 2024 Series, but the first combination to win the series more than once.
Going into today’s final leg, Charlie Magnier and Notre Dame De Bourguignon held a commanding but not unassailable lead in the series by virtue of them having won the second and third legs of the series, however, by not competing today, they opened the door for Jack and either of his charges, to steal the prize, and that they did. Having to come either first or second today, Jack and Tulara Colchic were up to the task and rode confidently to provide the only double clear performance on the day.
Second place today went to Cody Tincknell and the aptly named Numero Too, who took their only rail of the day at the second last in the jump off, which they completed in a time that would have provided a huge win for them had they gone clear. The troublesome second last fence in the jump off also claimed another two victims, with Jack Barker and Bellhaven Calisco along with Jamie Hewitt-Toms and Koko Story both having it as their only rail for the class, putting them into third and fourth place respectively in the class. The other combination in the jump off were Clemency Hughes and YPH Capulet who ended on eight penalties to finish in fifth.
The full list of placings for the class today were as follows:
