The Larapinta Equestrian Centre, is a world class facility located approximately 30 km south of the Brisbane CBD. It has only been in operation for a couple of months, however, it has already hosted the Australian Open Polo Cup and this weekend saw the centre conduct it’s first Jumping show.

Competition was held across three arenas and the show was well attended by most of the top jumping talent in South-east Queensland. Unfortunately, stormy weather impacted the show and the final class in the main arena on Sunday could not be conducted.

Sunday was Championships Day and proceedings got off to a fine start. There were three classes set down for competition in the main arena and the action started with the Elite Equine 1.25m Championship. A total of 33 combinations were on the start-list and with one-third of the field going clear, an 11-way jump-off was required to sort out the placings. Only three of these failed to keep a clean sheet in the jump-off, so it came down to times to sort out the double clears. The clear winners were Australian WEG representative Billy Raymont and the Susan Tucker owned gelding YPH Capulet who sizzled around the track more than 5 seconds faster than the runner up. The margin from second to third however, was much closer with Clem Smith and Oaks Conjurer just 0.02 seconds faster than Chris Tomkins and Caraca Jack in third.

The next class of the day was the feature class for the weekend, the Pink Hills Pastoral Co. Mini-Prix. Thirty starters saw six clear rounds and another exciting jump-off was anticipated. However, it was not to be. The jump-off had barely started when the storms hit and the day’s jumping abandoned. The six clears were all declared joint winners and the prizemoney split six ways. The equal winners were Olivia Hamood and Jane Fonda DVD, Maleah Lang-McMahon with both PSS Chantilly and K.S Capulet Ego Z, her father Peter McMahon and K.S Sovereigns Cadel, Clem Smith and Alite and Brooke Langbecker and Quintago 1.

The final scheduled class of the day, the Icepack Junior Championship was not held.
