Raymont Reigns at Boneo Park

The Homes & Acreage World Wetlands Day Jumping Championships were held at the magnificent Boneo Park Equestrian Centre over the weekend. Although the weather created its challenges on the Friday, fine conditions were the order of the day for the rest of the show.

The feature event of the show was the Brown’s Sawdust sponsored Grand Prix held on Sunday and taken out in convincing style by Billy Raymont and his gelding Anton, who were the only combination to record double clear rounds. They were in fine form over the weekend by not only winning the Grand Prix, but by taking out an open 1.30m class on Friday and placing second, in an open 1.40m on Saturday, pipped for the win by Cavalli Park’s Paul Brent and Fontaine Blue VDL by just 0.31 seconds. Over the three days, Raymont and Anton completed 5 rounds without disturbing the fences. In a demonstration of his superiority, Raymont also took second place in the Grand Prix with YPH Capulet, while third place went to Ally Lamb and Eagle Rock.

While Raymont dominated the tall fences in Ring 1, there was another star of the show on the outside rings. Victorian 2019 Interschool squad member Nellie Rogers from Geelong, won an amazing four classes over the weekend all in combination with the thoroughbred gelding Rocket Rod. This pair took out two classes on Friday (open 0.90m and open 1.00m) and then followed this up with an open 0.95m class on Saturday and an open 0.90m class on Sunday.

Other multiple winners over the weekend were Jessica Grant and For Fly Heldenlaan Z who won open 1.10m classes on Friday and Saturday, Zoe Waller and Bequest who won open 1.15m classes also on Friday and Saturday, and Xanthe Wade in combination with Lakevale Tarwyn who won at 0.60m on Friday and 0.75m on Saturday.

Jess Stones, visiting from NSW, had success on two different horses, taking out an open 1.30m class on Saturday with Chatina and partnering with Black Currency to win the open 1.20m class on Sunday. A highly successful weekend was also experienced by young Zara Adnams along with two of her horses. On Sunday, Adnams combined with Elcarium Starlight to take out the Open 0.80m class, This partnership are no stranger to success at Boneo Park, having won the Ivory Series over 0.85m at the 2019 Australian Championships held at this venue. Adnams also paired with Dingmac Disco King to take out 1.00m and 1.04m classes over the weekend to make it a total of three wins.
