2025 Stal Tops Australian YR Season Final this weekend
While the feature competition on the Sydney Summer Classic program will, no doubt, be the final leg of the 2025 Australian World Cup Qualifying Series, there is another series which will reach its conclusion on Saturday. The fourth and final leg of the 2025 Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series will see an exciting field of young riders battling it out for the title.
In what is its seventh season, the Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series came about thanks to the generosity of four-time Olympic rider Edwina Tops-Alexander and her husband Jan Tops, wanting to assist in the development of Young Riders in the country, as well as giving something back to the sport.
The six completed series have seen a list of wonderful winners, with the highlight being Jack Barker picking up wins in both 2023 and 2024 and he is right in the mix to take the title again this year. The list of past winners is as follows:
| YEAR | RIDER | HORSE |
| 2018 | Erin Buswell | Quero Quero |
| 2019 | Amelia Douglass | Cassis Z Ten Halven |
| 2020 | Not Held | |
| 2021 | Madeline Sinderberry | Keilor Bamboo |
| 2022 | Clemency Hughes | Diamond B Corvina |
| 2023 | Jack Barker | Tulara Colchic |
| 2024 | Jack Barker | Tulara Colchic |
Saturday’s final throws up the closest race for the title ever going into the last leg. According to our records, at the top of the leaderboard, there is currently a three-way tie for the lead on 17 points. With 11 points to be allocated to the winning combination, combinations with as few as six points currently have an outside chance of taking a share of the lead. This means that no less than 13 combinations could take a share of a win in the series if results were to fall their way on Saturday.
We can’t wait to see how the Series will unfold and look forward to Saturday’s class.
