Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series win for Jack Barker and Tulara Colchic

The fourth and final leg of the 2023 Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series was held this morning as part of the Magic Millions Summer Classic Show at SIEC in Sydney. The Series, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Australian rider Edwina Tops-Alexander and her husband Jan Tops is now in its fifth season. With four legs scheduled over the year, Young Rider combinations have the opportunity to score points along the way, with the highest scoring combination being crowned the series winner.

Going into the class today Jack Barker and Tulara Colchic had an unassailable lead at the top of the leaderboard, but with $4,000 prizemoney on offer there was plenty to jump for. Unfortunately for Jack, he had a fall on another mount early in the class, which meant that he and Tulara Colchic did not make an appearance.

In the end, only 14 combinations took to the course, with just one of them able to record a clear round. There was no need for a jump off before Chase Naylor and Misty Blue Ego Z were declared the winners of the class.

There was a close battle for second, with three combinations recording just four penalties. William Wood and Powerhouse Park Ego Roc were the fastest of the trio, claiming second place and Holly Tomkins and Finch Farm Vroom were awarded third place. Molly Lawrence and Carabel P had to settle for fourth place by a very small margin.

It was a great break through win for Chase and Misty Blue Ego Z who had previously recorded a pair of fourth placings in both the first two legs of the series. The eleven points earnt by them for the win today was enough to lift them to a very close second place (25 points) behind the overall series winners, Jack Barker and Tulara Colchic, who won with 26 points. Third place in the series with a total of 14 points went to Georgia Bouzaid and Vitess, who did not compete today.
