There was also a complete support program of classes which are covered below.
The Victorian Government Emerald Series was contested over 1.10m and 1.15m, with the win going to the Queensland combination of Clem Smith and OTT gelding Where’s Cameron. They had a solid series, winning the first round with a fine double clear effort, before tying for first in round 2 with Sarah Duggan and Dublin. In the final they again went double clear to win the series from Gemma Creighton and Lola GHP in second place with Young Victorian rider Tanner Robinson and Charlie filling third.
Taranto Glass were the sponsors of the Ruby Series, competed for over 1.20m and 1.25m. The winners of the series were another Queensland combination with Gemma Creighton going one better than her second in the Emerald Series with gelding Its Silkbridge. After winning the first round on Thursday, they took a rail on Friday to finish in 12th place, however, they were back in form in Saturday’s final, going double clear in a super-fast time to take the victory. Second place in the final went to Brooke Hickey and Kentaur Coconut, with third place going once again to Tanner Robinson, this time with her Caracas gelding Cracker.
The third series of the show was the Martin Collins Bronze Series over heights of 1.30m and 1.35m. The win in this series went to Sydney based ex-New Zealander Isabella Du Plessis aboard her gelding Monte Carlo MVNZ. They were just one of two combinations double clear in the final. It topped off a great weekend for the pair, who knocked just one rail down over the course of five rounds. Second place in the final, also double clear and topping off a wonderful weekend of Jumping were Gemma Creighton and Alan 111 Z. Following on from her second in the Emerald Series and her win in the Ruby Series, second place here by just 0.30 seconds was a remarkable achievement. Third place in the final went to Sarah Duggan and Oaks Diamantina who despite recording the fastest time in the jump-off, took a rail and had to settle for a place on the podium.
There were two other classes on the program. Both on Thursday and Friday, open 1.40m classes were held which were used as warm-up classes by many of the combinations preparing for Saturday’s World Cup Qualifier. Jennifer Wood and Cocaine Ego Z were the fastest clear round in the Thursday class, which was a good omen for them as they went on to fill fourth place in the World Cup Qualifier two days later.
The Friday Open 1.40m was won by none other than Gemma Creighton, this time riding the gelding Dada Des Brimbelles Z, after finishing second behind Wood and Cocaine Ego Z on Thursday. Gemma and Dada Des Brimbelles Z went on to an eleventh placing in the World Cup Qualifier.
As usual, the D&JWTS show provided a smorgasbord of Jumping entertainment, ranging from 4-year-old classes to a World Cup Qualifier and everything in between. We already can’t wait for the 2025 edition of one of our favourite shows.
