Sun rises over beautiful Boneo Park as major Australian Championships to be decided
Today sees the final day of action in the 2018 Pryde’s Easifeed Australian Jumping Championships, being held at Boneo Park Equestrian Centre and that means that it is time for the big finals to be contested. The three classes scheduled for Ring 1 are:
- The Horizon Show Jumps Australian Junior Rider Championship
- The IRT Australian Young Rider Championship, and
- The Horseland Australian Senior Championship
Each of these divisions has had two preliminary rounds which have been used to determine the number of penalties each combination will carry into today’s finals.

In summary, the scoring system works like this:
In each Round, the combinations are placed from first down to last according to their performance.
These placings are converted to ranking points. The winner of the class gets one point more than the number of starters in the class. Second placed combination gets 2 points less than the winner; Third place gets 3 points less than the winner, etc, all the way down to the last placed combination, who scored one point.
Ranking points are added for both rounds, to come up with an overall ranking.
The combination with the highest number of total ranking points is given a score of zero and all other combinations are given a score equal to the number of ranking points they are behind the leader.
Finally, these scores are divided by 2 (half scores are rounded down) to arrive at the number of penalties each combination will carry forward into today’s finals.
