Tincknell Too good in first round of the Young Rider Championship
The second class on the Main arena today at the Pet Circle 2025 Australian Jumping Championships was the first round of the 4Cyte Young Rider Championship. The rails were set at 1.35m with 33 combinations tackling the course put together by the Chief Course Designer for the Championships David Sheppard. The class was conducted as a traditional speed class, with fast times at a premium and four seconds added for each rail down.
Second out on the start list was Alexander Jang and Parallax SCF who were clear in a time of 64.29 seconds, which proved to be a very competitive effort, keeping them at the top of the leaderboard for a long way.
A dozen combinations later came another NSW combination of Charlie Magnier and Notre Dame De Bourguignon. They looked like they were about to snatch the lead, however, they stopped the clock at 64.56 seconds to settle in second for the time being. They sat in that position until Hayden Parker and Tulara Spangenberg appeared just six combinations from end of the 33 strong start list. They put in a brilliant clear round, finishing in just 61.53 seconds, taking over the lead and relegating Charlie into third place.

With only a handful of combinations to come, the podium looked like it had been determined, but that was until just two combinations later, Queensland’s Cody Tincknell and his gelding Numero Too entered the arena. They put on a display that eclipsed all that had come before them, recording a clear round in the scintillating time of 61.27 seconds which put them into the lead. With the last three combinations all incurring at least one penalty which added vital seconds to their times, the podium was finally settled.
It was a fantastic class to watch and it is fair to say that the standard across the board of these young riders, aged between 16 and 21, demonstrates that the future of jumping in Australia will be strong for many years to come. After today’s first round, there will be a second round conducted tomorrow. The best 20 performed combinations across the two rounds will qualify for the final, which will be held on Saturday.
We look forward to watching how this Young Rider Championship unfolds across the rest of the show.
