The second leg of the 2022 Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series was held this afternoon as part of the Waratah Showjumping World Cup show at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC). The organisers of the Series are grateful that the Waratah Showjumping allowed the inclusion of this class at short notice when the Larapinta World Cup show was recently cancelled due to ongoing weather issues in Queensland.
The Series, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Australian rider Edwina Tops-Alexander and her husband Jan Tops is now in its fourth season and saw the first Leg held at the Boneo GDP classic in May. Leg 3 is scheduled to held at the Jumping @ Willinga show in September with the Series culminating at the Sydney Summer Classic in December.
Young Rider combinations have the opportunity to score points over the four Legs, with the highest scoring combination being crowned the series winner.
Today’s class saw a field of 23 combinations entered, five of which recorded clear rounds, setting up an exciting jump off. Of these five, three combinations again went clear, so it came down to times to sort out the podium placings.
With a jump off time of 36.51 seconds, the win went to the New Zealand combination of Tyla Hackett and Global PH Cocofino. Hackett who has been in Australia since April is currently training at Chatham Park under the guidance of George Sanna.

After finishing second in the first leg, second place again today, with a jump off time of 38.31 seconds went to Clemency Hughes and Diamond B Corvina. Their consistency ensures that they retain the Series lead at the half-way point.
