Winners galore at the Jumping NSW Winter Classic

While we have been focussed on Australia’s representatives and their efforts at the Paris Olympic Games, competitions have continued at home, providing the opportunity for many prospective future Olympians to gain some valuable experience. The Jumping NSW Winter Showjumping Classic was held at SIEC over the weekend of July 27 and 28, where a number of FEI Children’s competitions took place alongside a range of classes for the adults. These FEI classes are an important experience for these youngsters, as for many, it might be the first time they are involved in the horse inspection process prior to competing, something they will need to get used to at higher levels of competition.

The FEI Children’s classes were conducted over three heights and over the two days of the show. The Gold Category competition, over 1.20m fences, went to visitors from Victoria Zara Adnams and Nicolette, who managed to get around four courses without incurring a single penalty. In the Silver competition (1.10m), the winners were Olivia Curtain and Yalambi’s Luciana, who were the fastest of four combinations who were penalty-free over the two days of competition. In the Bronze competition, over 1.00m, the prize went to Abbie Taylor and Kosciuszko Red, who were the fastest of just three combinations who incurred four penalties.

In other results, the feature class on Sunday was an Open 1.40m competition. The winners were the recently returned from Europe, Jamie Kermond and Tulara Daquine who needed a double clear performance to take the win. Their jump off time of 39.09 seconds was just enough to take the win over his wife Jamie Winning-Kermond and Tulara Wat Colblensky who were second in 39.70 seconds. Third place went to James Mooney and KPH Cavatina, who were also double clear, with a time of 42.04 seconds.

On the Saturday, the 1.30m Open class went to Sarah Duggan and Dublin. Her partner, James Paterson-Robinson and Yirrkala Vanity Affair placed second with Emma Smith and Qi Dao NH in third.

The most prolific winner over the weekend was Makaylah Fenwick. As well as a spate of minor placings, Makaylah managed to win four classes over the two days of competition. On Saturday, she won a Junior 1.10 class aboard Grace And Glory, before really coming into form on Sunday, when she won three classes. Along with The Garrett, she won Open 1.10m and 1.20m classes as well as an 0.90m class with Rainbow Man. It was a great effort from Makaylah who appears to have a bright future in the sport.
