Penultimate World Cup Show for 2023 – Sale

The last weekend in November saw the Sale and District Showjumping Club conduct their annual World Cup Qualifier show. Two rings were in operation over the three-day show, both located in the beautiful Elm tree ringed main arena at the Sale Showgrounds.

There were a number of supporting classes on the program, some of which had large numbers on the start lists. The most successful combination of the show were the locals, Andrew Lamb and Oaks Ever Red. After finishing second in the previous week’s final of the Victorian Senior Championship, this combination were the stars of the show with wins in no less than three classes. On the first day of the show, they won the 1.30m open class followed by the 1.40m open class. After a rest on Saturday, they returned on the show’s final day to take out the Mini Prix in a wonderful double clear performance. In fact, all three wins were achieved without incurring a single penalty.

Not to be outdone Katelin Clark also picked up three wins, one on each day of the show. She won an open 1.20m class on the opening day and then followed it up with a win in the speed championship on Day 2, both aboard her OTT thoroughbred Katelle Grand. On Sunday, Katelin wrapped up a very successful weekend by claiming the Amateur Championship, this time aboard Grandview Viva La Vida.

Local Rider, Xanthe Wade picked up a pair of wins, taking out the Open 0.80m and Open 0.90m classes on Friday with Lakevale Tarwyn, before a second placing in the Vicky Greig Memorial Open 0.90m class on Saturday. Xanthe was also awarded a win for riding the best placed OTT horse, Alpha Tango Sierra, which she rode into second place overall in Friday’s Open 0.90m class.

A pair of wins, both on Saturday, also went to Sam Conway and Denison Park Arnie, winning open classes at 1.20m and 1.30m.

The Junior rider star of the show was Tanner Robinson. Tanner, a member of the Jumping Victoria High Performance Squad won a Junior 1.15m class and the Junior Championship (1.15m), both aboard Yalambis Corlandia. What made Tanner’s performance special was the number of placings she also picked up in these classes. In the Junior 1.15m class, not only did she take the win, but finished second with Queveda, fifth with Vidacious and sixth with Charlie. This performance was backed up in the Junior Championship where, behind her win, she also finished second, fourth and sixth on the same trio of horses.
