All in readiness for a big weekend at Larapinta

The Larapinta World Cup Show has reached its half-way point with the conclusion of competition this afternoon on Day 2 of the show. (For our wrap of the action on Day 1, click HERE).
Once again there was action across four arenas with competition on the main arena taking place over 10 hours, in an effort to fit in as many of the classes that were originally scheduled on Wednesday, into the program.
Action on the Langs Building Supplies Arena 1 opened with the second round of the Mini Prix and it was Sarah Duggan and Oaks Diamantina taking the win. They were the fastest of 16 clear combinations, just beating home Emily Riley and her mare Rhapsody in Blue, with yesterday’s Round 1 winning combination of Samantha Dernee and Laurel Glen Quintessence finishing third.
Jamie Winning-Kermond and Yandoo Honolulu were the winners of a hastily put together class especially for World Cup nominated horses to replace a warm-up class which was lost in the program reorganisation. Jamie should go into tomorrow’s World Cup Qualifier confident that the horse will not be out of its depth in what will be the mare’s first start at this level.
Bree Wiblin and her gelding Silverado EZ were successful in the Amateur class while the Victorian combination of Sienna Holdsworth-Rose and Coolart Farm Short Torque won the Junior Rider class. The day on the main arena ended with a class restricted to Lady riders. The win went to Gatton based rider Michelle Helmore and her mare Ad Astra, which is an appropriate name for the winning horse as the name means “to the stars” in latin.

Three classes were decided today on each of the other three arenas. On the CBI Group Arena 2, two of the three classes were won by Queensland rider Cody Tincknell. In the Open 1.05m class, Cody won with his mare Lady Quincella Gold, and ironically picked up his second win of the day, riding the aptly named gelding Numero Too. Cody’s pair of victories were punctuated by the second round of the Future Stars Series where yesterday’s Round 1 winners Billy Raymont and Balian D/N Hop Z again proved too good for the 40 strong start list.
Out on the Gold Coast Equestrian Centre Arena 3, the Open 1.10m class went to William Wood and his young gelding Grady, before Jamie Hewitt-Toms and Balou Du Rose won the 1.15m Open class. The TSHA class, over 1.10m, was won by Kadell Sykes and Rocket of Gold, who would seem to be a better jumper than he was a racehorse, having recorded just a single victory from his 36 starts.
Wins on the BMI Resource Recovery Arena 4 went to Jaime Page riding Whizkey N Diamons in the Open 0.90m, Michael Short and BNW Vittoria in the Open 1.00m and Harriet Smith and Im A Cowboy in the class for Riders 14 years and under.
It was another successful day, filled with wonderful jumping competition and we can only look forward to tomorrow’s program with feature events including the World Cup Qualifier, as well as the finals of the Future Stars and Mini Prix competitions.
Congratulations to the winners and all the placegetters of every class today, as listed below:
