All set for Junior Grand Prix at Sydney Royal
A fascinating four days of Jumping will reach its climax tomorrow when the Junior Riders at the Sydney Royal Easter Show will compete in their Grand Prix. The competition has been fierce over the first three days of the show and with 21 combinations engaged in the Grand Prix, it is sure to be compelling viewing.
Let’s look back on how the action has unfolded over the past three days.
The competition started on Thursday morning with a speed class where only five of 21 combinations entered didn’t incur faults. In a repeat of their victory in the first round of the Junior competition last year, Hunter Valley rider Charlie Magnier and Quinn Z took the win with a wonderful clear round, taking just 51.23 seconds to complete the course. Second place went to Hawkesbury based rider Jett Newman and Wanda, who were more than three seconds slower in a time of 54.29 seconds.
Third place went to the combination who were placed second in the Junior Grand Prix last year, Emily Lang-McMahon and Glenara Mudslide. All the way down from Queensland to compete, they were a further 2.1 seconds slower with a time of 56.41 seconds.

Friday saw damp conditions prevail for the second round, where 19 combinations took to the arena. Nine of these managed clear rounds to set up an exciting jump-off. Just four of these nine combinations finished the jump-off with a clean slate, so it came down to times to sort out the placings. The fastest jump off time and the win went to the Victorian combination of Zoe Waller and Bequest, who finished in a sizzling time of 38.25 seconds. Just missing out on the win and going one better than their third in Round 1, second went to Emily Lang-McMahon and Glenara Mudslide. Third place was snared by another Victorian pair, Ella Hayward and Edena DP, who finished the jump off in 42.81 seconds.

Saturday’s third round was conducted in brilliant sunny conditions on a cool crisp autumn morning, perfect for jumping and the Juniors certainly put on a show for the early morning crowd watching on. A total of 21 combinations presented for the competition with six of these going clear and being invited back for a jump off. In the jump off, only three combinations could repeat their clear rounds and these had the podium for themselves. First place in the class went to Ella Hayward and Edena DP, who had a very consistent three days with the round 3 win preceded by fifth and third placings. Jake Tomlinson and Vinchino from Forbes in NSW were placed second with a jump off time of 40.66 seconds, just over a second behind the winners. This is Tomlinson’s second year competing at Sydney Royal after he was named best Boy rider in the Pony Club teams contest in 2022. For the third day in a row, Emily Lang-McMahon and Glenara Mudslide finished in the top three, rounding out the podium in third place in a time of 41.05 seconds.
