Competition heats up on Day 2 of the NSW Country Jumping Championships
A crisp clear morning greeted riders on the second day of the NSW Country Jumping Championships in Wagga Wagga. Today saw Round 2 competition after a very exciting day yesterday when Round 1 speed classes were held in all championships. Tomorrow will be finals day when the competition is sure to really heat up.
All Round 2 classes today were held under article 238.2.2, with exciting jump offs seen in all classes.
NSW COUNTRY JUNIOR TITLE – ROUND 2 (1.15m)
First class on the Jumping NSW Outdoor All-Weather Arena this morning was Round 2 of the NSW Country Junior Title. Of the 40 combinations entered, nine qualified for a jump-off and of these, seven again were clear. The winners were Chloe Mannell and Athena, who improved from seventh place in Round 1. Round 1 winning combination, Jess Rice-Ward and Dusky Farm Cavalier, proved their consistency to record a close second, while Sophie Hatch and Glenara Mudslide filled third.

NSW COUNTRY AMATEUR TITLE – ROUND 2 (1.15m)
The second round of the NSW Country Amateur Title saw 27 combinations start, with just five going clear. Only the three placegetters recorded double clears. In what was almost a replay of yesterday’s podium, the first two placings were filled by the same combinations. The win went to Alisa Williams and Anigrey, by just 0.05 seconds from Melissa Jasprizza and Woodsend Merlot. Third place was filled by Caitlin Brewer on Celeborn Ego Z, who improved from 16th place yesterday.

FUTURE STARS (Under 40 Points) – ROUND 2 (1.25m)
The next class contested was Round 2 of the Future Stars Championship. With 28 starting combinations and 11 clear rounds, the jump off was very open with nine double clears. As with the Amateur Title, the placings today were almost a carbon copy of those recorded yesterday. The victorious combination was again Stuart Jenkins and Blackall Park Penny Lane. Also filling second place for the second day in a row was Katie Laurie and Dandelion. Third place also went to Katie Laurie, this time riding McCaw MVNZ.

NSW COUNTRY YOUNG RIDER TITLE – ROUND 2 (1.25m)
A high-class field tackled the course in Round 2 of the NSW Country Young Rider Title. Of the 16 starting combinations, eight had clear rounds setting up a big jump off field. However, only three combinations went double clear and they were the first three placegetters. The winner was Amelia Douglass and Sirius Du Granit who improved from eighth place in Round 1. Second went to Jamie Priestley and Amaretto MVNZ, followed closely be Jacob Wells and Cobra De Capello in third. Yesterday’s winner, Erin Buswell and Quero Quero finished fourth today.

NSW COUNTRY MINI PRIX – ROUND 2 (1.25m)
A field of 24 combinations contested Round 2 of the NSW Country Mini Prix Championship this afternoon. In a remarkable effort, 14 combinations went clear to qualify for the jump off and of these, eight went double clear. Victorious by exactly 1 second was Jessica Grant and Cosmorex Coffee Vienetta, who finished in seventh yesterday. Second was Tom McDermott and Yalambi’s Fair Diamond VDL. Third place today was filled by the winners of Round 1, Jennifer Wood and Harvey B.

NSW COUNTRY SENIOR TITLE – ROUND 2 (1.40m)
Twenty-one combinations tackled the 1.40m course in the second round of the NSW Country Senior Title. Nine of these combinations had clear rounds and were invited back for a jump off to determine the final placings in the round. Winning with a second clear round was Tom McDermott and Elegance De La Charmille. Again, showing his dominance in this class, McDermott and Alpha Activity filled second place. Yesterday’s winning rider, Kate Laurie, this time with Casebrook Lomond, came in third. Round 1 winning combination Katie Laurie and Cera Caruso came in fifth.
