Sydney Summer Classic wraps up 2024

Australian Jumping

Last weekend saw the Jumping NSW Summer Showjumping classic competition held at SIEC, traditionally the last major Jumping event on the Calendar year. With competition over four days, the highlight of the show was the Chatham Park World Cup Qualifier, the second last of the 2024 season. Our full story on the class can be read HERE.

Also featured on the program was the final leg of four of the 2024 Stall Tops Australian Young Rider Series, which proved to be an exciting affair, which threw up a surprise series result. Click HERE for our full story on the class.

While the weather proved challenging towards the end of the show, the action went on, despite the steady rain and soggy conditions. Sunday was a day full of finals action with the first class on Arena 1 being the Emcee Apparel Super Junior Final. The class was won by Alexander Jang aboard Griddy, who put together the only double clear performance of the class. Olivia Price and Chio MS were second and Valentina Hercus with Carousel GV were third, both taking a rail in the jump off.

The Winning Group Futurity Final was a closely fought affair, with six combinations going double clear and less than ten seconds separating their jump off times. The win went to Jamie Kermond and Yalambis Lord Byron who were just over a second faster than the second placed Jess Brown and Elysian Fields Oceanus. Third place went to Billy Raymont and Jaheta Hazel.

The Camden Equine Centre Mini Prix saw three double clear performances filling the podium. First place went to the very consistent Samantha Dernee and Laurel Glen Quintessence, who prevailed after wins on the first two days of the show in an open 1.40m class as well as the Mini Prix Qualifier. Second place went to Billy Raymont aboard Nixstar with a combination which has shown promise at World Cup Qualifier level this year, Maverick Miles and Verdasco in third.

The final class of the show on the main arena was the Liz Watson sponsored Rising Stars Final. On what was a memorable day for him, the win went to Jamie Kermond with Glenara Chartelle M after being the fastest double clear performance. Also double clear were the second and third placed Tallara Cameron and La Traviata and Geroge Johnson and Tulara Karasco.

The feature class of the day on arena 2 was the Amateur Championship, named in honour of the late Sienna Weir. Gaby Herbosa and Kaloona Virago were the winners With Portia Wilson and Happy Girl the other double clear combination in second place. Third went to Brooke Richardson and Finch Farm Fed X.

It was a fantastic show, this was well attended by both competitors and spectators alike.
