Things Heat Up on Day 2 of Waratah Showjumping
Above: Isobel Guiness and Copabella Verdi set the arena on fire with their win in the 1.30m open.
After yesterday’s hail storm, which put an early end to proceedings, we woke up today to a beautiful crisp spring morning, anticipating an exciting day of jumping – and we certainly weren’t disappointed. As the temperature rose so did the heat in the arenas as we saw some fantastic competition unfold on the second day of the November edition of Waratah Showjumping at Sydney Equestrian Centre (SIEC). Click HERE for the write up from Day 1.
The action in Arena 1 kicked off with the Chic Management 1.2om Open with 36 combinations tackling the Michael Haese designed track. There were 12 combinations that went clear in both phases of the class, but it was was Amanda Madigan and Diamond B Beethoven who clocked the fasted time of 40.03 in the second phase to take the win.
The Caliera Performance Horses Junior 1.20m followed directly after and it was Lucy Locke who again sped around the track with Diamont in a time of 33.83 (the fasted in all divisions) to take out this class for the second day in a row – after winning yesterday on Quero Quero.

The Chuggy Equestrian 1.30m Open was another hotly contested class, with Isobel Guiness and Copabella Verdi (previously a long-time partner of Tallara Cameron) taking out the class almost exactly one second faster than Kate Hinschen riding Amelia Douglass’s Eye Catcher into second place, with Gabrielle Chugg and KG Queenie filling the final spot on the podium.
The Simmonds Family 1.30 Young Rider Class was taken out convincingly by Clemency Hughes and Diamond B Corvina in a time of 32.55, although Anneliese Wansey and Kolara Stud St Patrick gave her a run for her money, coming in second on a time of 34.04.
After the storm yesterday prevented the running of the last class, the big class today was much anticipated and there were 31 combinations who entered the Chatham Park 1.40m. Eleven combinations went clear in the first round, with 10 electing to jump off. It was, as anticipated, a fierce competition but it was Tom McDermott and Yalambis Finnigan who prevailed, to take the win in 35.15 – less than a second faster than Jess Rice-Ward and CP Southern Cross (35.73). Emma Smith and Cordelia Ego Z rounded out the podium finishing in 3rd place in 36.32 seconds.
We congratulate all the winners and placegetters from todays event. See below for a full listing of results.
