Amelia Douglass and Sirius Du Granit victorious in Stal Tops Young Rider at Boneo
The third round of the 2019 Stal Tops Young Rider Series was held today as part of the final day of the Boneo Park Cup show. The Stal Tops Young Rider Series was instigated by Edwina Tops-Alexander and her husband Jan Tops. Edwina is an outstanding ambassador for our sport and has represented Australia with great success at innumerable international competitions including Olympic and World Equestrian Games.
Last year, Edwina and Jan established the Stal Tops Australian Young Rider Series. This event was a highlight of the 2018 jumping calendar and thanks to their generosity, is being run again this year.

This morning’s class was the first class of the day and was held in cool conditions, with 33 of the country’s best Young Rider combinations involved. The top five combinations on the leaderboard were all competing, which meant that we expected the competition was going to be hot and we were not disappointed.
The 1.30m course saw an incredible 25 combinations record clear rounds, the fastest of which was recorded by the recently crowned NSW Young Rider Champions Amelia Douglass and Cassis Z Ten Halven. They were the only pair to break the 70 second barrier, a marvellous performance on a course with an allowed time of 80 seconds.

The ensuing jump-off saw an enthralling and high class showdown, between the best young riders our country has to offer. Of the 25 combatants, only six were able to record double clears and so it came down to time to sort out the placings. Fastest of these six were Amelia Douglass, however this time on her other ride, Sirius Du Granit. They were clear by just 0.17 seconds from the second placed Lucy Evans and Viva Joy, with Douglass, this time in combination with Cassis Z Ten Halven, filling third, just 0.03 seconds behind. Will Dight and Thea took Fourth with Jamie Priestley and Kolora Stud Optimus, filling fifth place – not quite enough to retain their lead in the Series.

Today’s win has taken Amelia Douglass and Sirius Du Granit to the top of a very crowded leaderboard. She is just one point clear of herself and Cassis Z Ten Halven, Jamie Priestley and Kolora Stud Optimus and the consistent Will Dight and Thea, all tied in second place. The 2018 Series winners, Erin Buswell and Quero Quero lie within striking distance, only a further 5 points back.
