Aquis Champions Tour Results – Day 1
FRIDAY 26th APRIL
The 2019 Aquis Champions Tour started yesterday at the magnificent Elysian Fields complex at Canungra in the Gold Coast Hinterland. With nine days of competition ahead of us and over 400 riders and over 800 horses competing for more than $340,000 in prizemoney, this is one of Australia’s premier jumping events.
Classes will be held this weekend and, except for a rest day on Monday, right through to next Sunday the 5th of May, when the headline finals for the show will be held.
On Day 1, all classes were two phase events which means that separate jump-off rounds were not held. Details of the winners and placegetters of all classes held on Day 1 are listed below.
Results sourced from Global Entries Online.
AQUIS ARENA – RING 1
CLASS 1.01: GreenPRO – 1.25m Height Class (for horses with less than 40pts)
A massive start list of 92 combinations entered the first class on the main Aquis arena. Twelfth in the list was the local Queensland rider Olivia Hamood and Sundance GHP, who recorded double clear to take the lead from the earlier competitors. They held this position until Katie Laurie, who rode five different horses in this class, came out in 56th place on Elysuim GNZ and snatched the lead with a sizzling time in the jump-off section of the round. It looked like these two competitors had first two placings to themselves, until the very last combination of current Australian Senior Champion rider Amber Fuller and Armani Z split the pair to push Hamood back to third.
The top six placegetters in this class were:
PLACE | RIDER | HORSE | $ |
1st | Katie Laurie | Elysuim GNZ | $225 |
2nd | Amber Fuller | Armani Z | $125 |
3rd | Olivia Hamood | Sundance GHP | $60 |

CLASS 1.02: 240 Electrical – 1.35m Height Class
The highlight of the day was the second and final class on the Aquis Arena. This class saw many of the big names in Australian jumping looking to give their best horses their first test at the Elysian Fields complex. Again, a huge list of 93 combinations were on the start-list, which meant that the afternoon was filled with an exciting display of quality jumping.
Thirty two of the field went clear in the first phase of the round, qualifying them to continue into the jump-off portion of the round. As with this morning, the placegetters came out near the end of the list. Last year’s Aquis Gold Tour winning combination of Merrick Ubank and Alantinus showed that they were back to defend their title by recording a scorching 28.86 sec phase 2 to knock Australian World Cup representative Billy Raymont, riding Anton, out of the top spot. Ubank must have thought that he had the win in the bag until just near the end of the list when Sydney based rider Amelia Douglass and Barrichello amazingly also went double clear in a time identical to that recorded by Ubank to tie for first.
The top six placegetters in this class were:
